WHAT DO YOU REALLY KNOW ABOUT YOUR CLOCK???

WE WILL ALWAYS BE READY TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS

All mechanical clocks need to be lubricated. The gears in your clock are like the gears in your car engine. They mesh together and will wear each other, the difference is each gear in the clock is on a shaft which passes through the plates on front and back. These shafts run on a soft brass bushing which is designed to wear so the gears do not rub together and shear off the teeth. These soft bushings require lubrication so the shaft moves smoothly.
With only a few exceptions, all movements (the working part of the clock) should be taken completely out of the case and the dial (face) of the clock removed so it can be properly lubricated.
Clocks require a special type of oil. 99% need to be taken apart and the movement removed from the seat board and separated from the dial so that all pivots and bushings can be properly lubricated. Very few people have ability , proper tools, and proper oil to take care of their own clocks.
Howard Miller, today's leading manufacturer, recommends that after the first year you begin to have it properly lubricated. After all, Grandfather Clocks are meant to last not only through your lifetime but should be handed down generation to generation. We have several regular customers with beautiful running clocks that are over 250 yrs old.
Absolutely, we can repair the movement, the weights, the pendulum, the chime system and the cabinet itself.
The clock needs to have the weights and pendulum removed, the movement and chime system should be secured. Never let anyone touch the brass of your clock with bare hands as this can cause the brass to discolor. This is best done by an expert but it is something you could do yourself, if time or money is an issue. But take this is opportunity to have an expert put it back together, oil it and getting it back working properly ‚Äč
